The world of Delhi Crime raw, riveting, and emotionally charged opens its doors to a new face this season. Acclaimed actor Sayani Gupta joins the celebrated Netflix series in Season 3, premiering on November 13, stepping into the role of Kusum, a complex, unpredictable woman who blurs the line between right and wrong.

At the trailer launch, Sayani couldn’t hide her admiration for the show that has already become a global benchmark in Indian storytelling. “I have to say this, I have not met a single person who has ever said they don’t love Delhi Crime. Not one,” she shared with a smile. “And I think that’s the rarest thing. Usually, every person takes away something different from every film or show. But Delhi Crime has connected with everyone in a universal way. To come and join this incredible team that has proved its craft time and again and to explore all the possibilities of that world through these amazing characters that they write and bring to life it’s an honour. Thank you for welcoming me and all the new people joining the team with so much love and warmth.”

That warmth, however, contrasts sharply with the world her character inhabits. Sayani’s Kusum is a survivor neither hero nor villain, but a woman doing whatever it takes to make it through. “When I read the script, I found it fascinating,” she said. “As actors, we all wait for that one director who pushes us into uncomfortable spaces into moments of imbalance, things that we’re afraid to do ourselves, things we don’t expect from ourselves, no matter how capable we think we are. The character of Kusum is incredible. There’s no right or wrong for her. There are no boundaries. She’s a hustler, a survivor, and she’ll do anything in her capacity to survive.”

It’s a role that challenged Sayani in all the right ways — but also reminded her of the freedom that comes with embracing moral ambiguity. “The best thing I realised while playing a grey character,” she reflected, “is that you can be absolutely anything. You can do anything. There’s no judgment. It’s so liberating. I had the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire 14-year career playing Kusum.”

For an actor who has built her career on authenticity and depth, Delhi Crime 3 offered both creative risk and emotional release. Sayani’s excitement about being part of the show was matched by her appreciation for its storytelling ethos one that dares to look at society’s underbelly with empathy rather than sensationalism.

Joining a powerhouse ensemble led by Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, and Huma Qureshi, Sayani brings yet another layer of intensity to a show already known for its fearless realism. If her words are any indication, Delhi Crime 3 will not only push its characters into uncharted territory, it will also redefine how we perceive survival, morality, and power.

Watch Delhi Crime season 3 on Netflix from November 13.
