The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to break new ground by launching the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Film Festival and Hackathon in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2025. Organized in partnership with LTIMindtree and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the initiative aims to explore how AI can transform filmmaking and storytelling.
According to a press release, the event will bring together filmmakers, creators, and technology experts to experiment with AI-driven tools and storytelling techniques, encouraging innovation across the film industry.
Festival Director Shekhar Kapur, who will also head the jury for the AI Film Festival, stated, “This event is about expanding creativity through technology. AI has immense potential to reshape how stories are told, and we want to explore that frontier with filmmakers and technologists alike.”
The AI Film Festival will feature a showcase of AI-generated films across multiple genres including fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental cinema. In addition, a 48-hour hackathon will provide developers and storytellers with a platform to create new AI-based tools for filmmaking.
Workshops and masterclasses will delve into the practical applications of AI in film production as well as the ethical considerations of using technology in storytelling. Organizers also plan to establish collaborations with international AI film festivals, aiming to foster global partnerships and provide recognition to emerging creators in this evolving domain.
With this pioneering initiative, IFFI positions itself at the forefront of technological innovation in cinema, merging creativity with cutting-edge AI tools to redefine the future of filmmaking in India.
