In a press conference held in Mumbai for the upcoming Tamil-language period horror film Aghathiyaa, actor Jiiva shared some exciting insights about the film, which is set to have a pan-India release. The movie, directed by Pa Vijay, promises to offer a thrilling mix of horror, adventure, and family-friendly entertainment. Jiiva spoke passionately about his role and the film’s unique blend of elements designed to captivate a wide range of audiences.
Jiiva, who plays the central character in Aghathiyaa, emphasized that the film is not just a regional production but a pan-India project. He said, “This is a pan-India film. it has a good message, good graphics, horror, and adventure.” The film aims to resonate with audiences beyond the Tamil-speaking regions, showcasing top-notch VFX and an engaging story. Jiiva added, “A South Indian film can be promoted all across India… audiences will get a new experience.”
The actor expressed his belief that the movie will offer a refreshing and enjoyable experience, not just for Tamil audiences but for viewers all over India. According to Jiiva, it provides a perfect mix of entertainment, with a meaningful takeaway. “I’m sure that not only the message but also the entertainment will convey this message. kids will also like it,” he said, highlighting the film’s appeal to younger audiences.
Aghathiyaa is not just another horror film; Jiiva promised that the movie would also offer something new for fans of adventure and family-oriented cinema. “This is a beautiful film. Raashi is in it. Pa Vijay has directed it… it will be 100% a family entertainer,” Jiiva added.
The film’s VFX, he mentioned, is another major highlight. “The VFX is really good… there are international artists involved,” he shared, assuring the audience that the visual effects would be top-tier, bringing the horror and adventure to life in an exciting and visually immersive way.
When asked about comparisons to the hit film Stree, Jiiva confirmed that Aghathiyaa takes inspiration from it, with certain elements that will remind audiences of the horror-comedy genre popularized by Stree. He shared, “This film takes some inspiration from Stree… Rashi has also worked in a pan-India film… a horror film, and the genre, an adventure genre, follows a similar model.” The film shares a similar tone with Stree, which was a major hit and resonated well with both kids and adults.
In particular, Jiiva sees Aghathiyaa as a film that can attract the same audience that embraced Stree—an audience that appreciates a mix of horror, comedy, and action. “It became a big hit in India... Stree’s audience has a good reach… they are also our target audience,” he noted.
After 4 years delays, Aghathiyaa is scheduled to be released in theatres on 28 February 2025.
