Rajkummar Rao, often hailed as one of the most versatile actors of his generation, will next be seen in Maddock Films’ upcoming romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf. Known for slipping seamlessly into any role—from intense dramas to laugh-out-loud comedies—Rajkummar has become a master of all genres. At the trailer launch in Mumbai, the actor opened up about his approach to acting, the importance of sincerity in art, and the moments in life he wishes he could relive.
“I can be very funny, I can be very serious—it all depends on the character,” Rajkummar shared. “But in real life, I think I’m more funny than serious. As an artist, you should be able to do everything.”
He reflected on how every artist has their own creative rhythm. “Every artist has their own process. The way Da Vinci painted isn’t how Van Gogh did. The secret is to be present in the moment. Do your work with honesty, love, and intensity. Never work for the wrong reasons.”
Rajkummar also expressed gratitude for producers like Dinesh Vijan who believe in real stories and back passionate creators. “It’s so important that we have producers like Dino. He’s empowering amazing filmmakers like Karan, Amar, and Laxman sir. There are a lot of projects out there, but very few people are telling real stories. Thank you for making these beautiful films.”
When asked about milestones from his career, he reflected on the challenges of being an outsider in the film industry. “Coming to this city as an outsider can be overwhelming. Not everyone gets a chance. That call about my first film—I’d love to relive that moment again and again. I also cherish the moment when I received my National Award, with my mother by my side. And when the Day 1 number for Stree 2 came in—that was something special too.”
Despite all the acclaim, Rajkummar remains humble and grounded. “I’m still learning, still trying to grow, and do better work as an artist. It feels amazing when people say they can relate to me—that’s the real victory. It's tough to earn that trust from the audience, to make them believe this could be them on screen. But that’s who I am—I’m one of you.”
