Actor and politician Ravi Kishan recently shared his disappointment about his film Laapataa Ladies not making it to the Oscars. Speaking on the sidelines of the 30th Anniversary of Bombay Times, Ravi opened up about the setback but emphasized his determination to keep moving forward with new stories.
Ravi Kishan, who had high hopes for the film, said, "I am very sad, not just me, but also Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan. It was a film from India about women empowerment, and we were truly disappointed. I had hopes that this time around, India would win an Oscar, but nevertheless, I will not stop. I will keep on working, and with a new story, I’ll enter the Oscar race again. I am a fighter from my childhood, and I will not give up."
Laapataa Ladies, helmed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan, tells the unique and heartwarming story of two young newlywed brides who are accidentally exchanged during a train ride to their husbands' homes. The film stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Chhaya Kadam in pivotal roles, and is a nod to the themes of empowerment and resilience.
Ravi Kishan also took a moment to express his gratitude for the media and entertainment industry, which, he says, has played a pivotal role in his success. "The Media Industry and Entertainment Industry complement each other; they are incomplete without each other. Both are the two halves that make one complete," he remarked. "Media has made me. They’ve helped me tremendously in establishing Ravi Kishan as a brand across the nation. I had no godfather, no connections, and I’ve worked on over 750 films. Media has played a huge part in this journey, and I’m forever grateful to them—whether it's the print media, electronic, or photographers, they've supported me from the beginning."
Ravi Kishan also spoke fondly about Bombay Times, acknowledging the significant role it has played in his career. "We grew up with Bombay Times. When I started off in 1990-1991, having your article in BT was equivalent to entering Bollywood. If BT wrote about you, it meant you had made it. It brought recognition, and for me personally, whenever I got an article in BT, I landed a film or two. It wasn’t just me—many of my colleagues, friends from the fraternity, also believe the same."
As Ravi Kishan continues to push forward in his career, despite the setbacks, his positive outlook and unwavering determination are sure to keep him striving for new milestones in the entertainment world. With his focus on creating impactful stories, it’s clear that he will not let this disappointment deter him from reaching greater heights.
