Prime Video has released the official trailer for The Narrow Road to the Deep North, a deeply emotional and visually stunning limited series adapted from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel. Created and written by Shaun Grant, the series delves into the haunting psychological and emotional toll of war, love, and memory. The narrative centers on Dorrigo Evans, an Australian army doctor and Japanese prisoner of war, portrayed by Jacob Elordi, whose mind remains tethered to a forbidden love that once offered him solace.
Directed by Justin Kurzel—who also serves as co-creator—the series explores Dorrigo’s struggle to preserve life while surrounded by death on the brutal Thai-Burma railway during World War II. Amidst unimaginable suffering, Dorrigo clings to the memory of his passionate affair with Amy, his uncle’s wife, played by Odessa Young. Their fleeting romance, which began unexpectedly in a bookshop, becomes both his anchor and tormentor as he navigates the horrors of war and the complexities of fidelity in his present-day marriage.
The cast features an impressive lineup including Ciarán Hinds, Olivia DeJonge, Heather Mitchell, Thomas Weatherall, Show Kasamatsu, Akira Fujii, and Simon Baker, among others. Their performances promise to bring emotional gravity to the story’s rich tapestry of characters. Visually arresting and emotionally layered, the trailer teases a story that blends intimacy with epic scale, as personal longing meets historical tragedy.
Produced by Alexandra Taussig and developed by Curio Pictures in collaboration with Screen Australia, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon Studios, The Narrow Road to the Deep North premieres globally on Prime Video on April 18, 2025. With a story that spans decades and continents, the series is set to be a poignant reflection on love, war, and the enduring scars they leave behind.
