The film stars Millie Bobby Brown as Michelle, an orphaned teenager living in a world where sentient robots once peacefully coexisted with humans but are now exiled following a failed uprising. Michelle’s life is turned upside down when she meets Cosmo, a sweet yet mysterious robot who seems to be controlled by her genius younger brother Christopher—the sibling she thought had died years ago. Determined to find Christopher and uncover the truth behind his disappearance, Michelle embarks on a journey across the American southwest, joined by Keats (played by Chris Pratt), a low-rent smuggler, and his sarcastic robot sidekick Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie).
As they journey through the Exclusion Zone, a desolate and dangerous part of the desert where robots now exist in isolation, the trio encounters an eclectic and colorful group of animatronic allies.
