The trailer for the upcoming historical action-drama Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath was unveiled today, offering a powerful glimpse into the story of Hamirji Gohil—a brave warrior who fought against the Tughlaq Empire to protect the Somnath Temple and uphold the Hindu faith.
Slated to release on May 16, the film stars Suniel Shetty, Sooraj Pancholi, and Akanksha Sharma in key roles. Directed by Prince Dhiman and produced by Kanu Chauhan, the film seeks to blend history, devotion, and patriotism into a compelling narrative.
Speaking at the trailer launch, Suniel Shetty opened up about what drew him to the project: “What was not in this film? There wasn’t a single reason for me to say no. It speaks about our faith, our country...Who are we really? Sanatan Dharma teaches us what? Just faith, action, and service. Nothing beyond that. And this film also reflects that—who we are, truly.”
He added: “We remain silent until we are provoked. Until then, we tolerate everything. Just like what's happening in recent times as well. The government is doing remarkable work. What’s happening in Kashmir is extraordinary—Article 370 was implemented, and there’s been progress since. But there are some who don’t want that progress to happen. This film also delivers the message that we must stay united, stand together, and most importantly, identify as Indians first.”
Shetty made it clear that the film is more than a commercial venture: “We’re not talking about box office success here. It’s a small attempt by the entire cast and crew to do something we believe in. We’re praying that this film works. It’s a heartfelt showcase of India—its culture, its beauty, its people—then and even today.”
He added a candid insight into the film's release journey: “A studio like Panorama came forward and said, ‘We’ll distribute this film.’ Because honestly, if you look at it from a box office point of view—who would take the risk to support a film like this? But after everything that’s happened, it feels like people do want good cinema to be made. I know it’s going to be a struggle to get people into theatres—to see us, to believe in us. But I believe what they will believe in is the story and the script.”
Suniel also took a moment to praise Sooraj Pancholi, who plays the lead role of Hamirji Gohil, calling the film a major opportunity for him:“Sooraj has been through a lot in life. But this kid has poured his heart into this film. Everyone deserves a second chance, and believe me—this is that chance. It’s like a blessing from Mahadev (Lord Shiva). When you watch the film, you’ll see—he’s unbelievably good.For me, it was like watching my own son Ahaan on screen. That’s the level of effort and love he has put in. That’s why I truly pray this film works and creates magic for him.”
