Kangana Ranaut’s directorial venture Emergency has made a solid impact at the domestic box office, grossing Rs 12.26 crore in its first weekend. The film, which was much-anticipated after several delays, was finally released on January 17, 2025.

Directed and produced by Kangana herself, Emergency dramatizes the critical months of the 1975 Indian Emergency and features Kangana in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film brings to life this turbulent period in India’s history with a strong ensemble cast.

Apart from Kangana, the film stars seasoned actors like Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik, whose performance adds emotional depth to the narrative. The film’s successful opening weekend reflects a strong audience interest in this historical drama. Kangana's production banner, Manikarnika Films, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to share the film's box office update, showcasing the strong start Emergency has had.

With its gripping storyline and compelling performances, Emergency is expected to continue performing well at the box office as more viewers flock to theaters to witness this intense portrayal of a pivotal moment in India’s political history.
