After making his digital debut with Maharaj, Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and ex-wife Reena Dutta, is all set to take his first steps onto the silver screen with Loveyapa. The romantic comedy, which promises to be a fun and heartwarming watch, will see Junaid playing a pivotal role alongside debutante Khushi Kapoor. In a recent interview, Junaid spoke about his journey into acting, his family’s influence, and how he navigates the ups and downs of love, both on-screen and off.
When asked about his approach to love and whether he sought any advice from his famous parents, Junaid candidly shared that he’s often turned to them for guidance. "I took lots of advice from parents regarding love-life. I mean, Dad always says, ‘Look, I will always give sensible advice. Always follow your heart because I have always followed my heart.’ He got married so young because he followed his heart, and he would suggest you always follow your heart,” Junaid recalled, revealing the deep connection he shares with his parents and the value of their life lessons.
In Loveyapa, Junaid plays the role of a typical Punjabi-Delhiite, a part that resonates with his own roots. "My mom’s side is complete Punjabi, so that kind of helped me a little bit," he said, referencing how his family background shaped his portrayal. "I don’t think my mom directly helped, but my grandparents, and a lot of my extended family from my mom’s side, really helped me get the Punjabi and Delhiite accent and vibe." It’s clear that Junaid’s cultural heritage played a key role in bringing authenticity to his character, a detail that fans are sure to appreciate.
While his role in Loveyapa is a significant step in his career, Junaid is also enjoying the experience of working alongside seasoned actors. The rom-com features a talented ensemble cast, including Ashutosh Rana, Kiku Sharda, and Grusha Kapoor, with Junaid expressing how much he has learned from his senior co-stars. "I had great fun. I really enjoyed working with each and every one. We have a fantastic cast with a lot of very senior actors who have done a lot of good work," he shared. “Ashutosh Rana Sir, Kiku Ji, Grusha Kapoor Ji—they all bring so much to the table. And there are also a lot of young, new actors, which brings a nice balance to the film."
Loveyapa tells the story of a couple who, just before getting married, decide to swap phones for a day—leading to a series of shocking revelations about their personal lives. Directed by Advait Chandan and based on the Tamil film Love Today, the film explores themes of trust, secrecy, and modern relationships in a light-hearted yet impactful way.
