Actor Sunny Hinduja admired for his powerful and memorable screen performanceshas stepped into an entirely new creative space with his latest short film, That’s a Wrap. The film, which he has written, directed, produced, and acted in, marks a deeply personal milestone for him. Adding to its significance, the project also stars and is co-created by his wife, Shinjini Hinduja.
The film premiered on Thursday at the Jagran Film Festival, where Sunny spoke openly about what drew him toward creating something of his own after years of performing in front of the camera.
Reflecting on his journey, Sunny shared how the desire for creative independence pushed him toward filmmaking. “As an actor, you give one performance and you remain confined to that. By God’s grace, I’ve begun to understand the craft better. I felt the urge to create something where I could express myself in my own way, where I could perform, narrate, and shape the story the way I believed in.”
He explained that acting alone often leaves artists dependent on others—editors, music directors, and technicians who ultimately sculpt the final product. “You become very limited as an actor. You perform, but then everything depends on others—how they edit it, what music they add, how they enhance the scene. This time, we wanted to create something that was completely ours, something made with our own sensibilities.”
Taking on every major department of a film—writing, directing, producing, and acting—did not come without its share of difficulties. “Doing everything together is tough,” Sunny admitted. “Just like we’re learning acting, we’re learning cinema too. We’ll keep trying to create good work.”
Among all the roles he took on, writing was one of the most demanding. “Writing is extremely difficult,” he said. “But we’re trying to create something meaningful. Hopefully next time, when we meet you all, it will be with a feature film.” With That’s a Wrap, Sunny Hinduja isn’t stepping away from acting; he’s expanding his creative world.
