Indian cinema has earned a prestigious spotlight at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), as Bayaan, an investigative drama headlined by acclaimed actress Huma Qureshi, becomes the only Indian film selected for the festival’s renowned Discovery section. Celebrating its 50th edition this year, TIFF has long been a launchpad for global cinematic talent—having previously spotlighted now-iconic filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuarón, and Barry Jenkins in this very category.
Directed and written by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, Bayaan dives into a gritty, emotionally charged narrative centered on truth, justice, and institutional silencing. With Qureshi at the forefront, the film explores the intricacies of an investigation that unravels not just a case, but the societal structures that enable it.
