Hulu is diving headfirst into one of the most shocking true crime sagas in recent American memory with its upcoming mini-series, Murdaugh: Death In The Family. The newly released official trailer teases a tense, emotional, and high-stakes drama based on the infamous Murdaugh family of South Carolina—a story that’s captivated headlines, podcasts, and now, the screen.
Leading the cast are Patricia Arquette as Maggie Murdaugh and Jason Clarke as Alex Murdaugh, the once-powerful couple whose carefully crafted life of influence begins to unravel after their son Paul (played by Johnny Berchtold) is involved in a fatal boating accident. What starts as a tragic incident quickly spirals into something much darker, as long-buried secrets and suspicious deaths bubble to the surface.
The ensemble cast is stacked: Will Harrison plays Buster Murdaugh, Brittany Snow takes on journalist Mandy Matney (whose podcast helped expose the story), with J. Smith-Cameron, Gerald McRaney, and Noah Emmerich rounding out the family drama as key Murdaugh relatives.
Co-created by Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr, and directed by Steven Piet, the series draws direct inspiration from the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, which helped catapult the story into the national spotlight. With Fuller as showrunner, viewers can expect a narrative that’s gritty, emotionally charged, and unafraid to explore the dark underbelly of wealth, power, and generational privilege in the American South.
Death In The Family premieres on October 15, 2025, just in time for the cozy-but-creepy fall viewing season. If the trailer is anything to go by, this series won't just tell you what happened—it’ll make you feel the chilling weight of legacy and betrayal.
