Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal are gearing up for the release of their first production venture, Girls Will Be Girls, and the excitement is palpable. The couple, known for their impressive performances in a variety of films, are now stepping into the world of filmmaking as producers. In a recent interview, Richa shared her thoughts on the journey, the challenges, and the fulfillment of being a part of this new chapter in their careers.
Richa expressed how lucky she felt to start their production journey with such a project. "We are really lucky to have started with this film. The script made us producers. It’s a dream, you know? You always imagine that one day you’ll become a producer, and that time came much sooner than expected with this film," Richa said. "When the grants came through, it gave us a huge confidence boost. We started working on it, and today, here we are, ready to release the film."
The film's casting process also played a key role in making the project special. Richa elaborated on how they worked with a talented casting director and were open to considering new faces. "We worked with a fantastic casting director. We did open casting calls, and while there were several faces, it was the performances of these two actors that stood out," she said. "A great cast can elevate a film's star power, and this cast has made the film even better."
When it comes to the production process, Richa and Ali have found a balance in sharing the creative load. "We both take creative calls. For example, one project might be led by Ali, while I take charge of another. We discuss and divide the work, because making a film takes years — from scriptwriting, to shooting, to editing. It's a long process," Richa shared. "We’re both busy with our acting projects, and of course, we are parents now, but it’s all worth it when you see the film coming together."
As Girls Will Be Girls prepares to stream globally on Prime Video from December 18, audiences can look forward to an evocative journey through the 90s, filled with humor, heart, and nostalgia.
