After a 17-year hiatus from direction, Tarun Mansukhani—the filmmaker behind Dostana and Drive—has returned to the director’s chair with the star-studded comedy Housefull 5. And surprisingly, despite carrying the weight of a massive franchise film, Tarun says he simply doesn’t buy into the stress of box-office numbers.
Speaking to the media, Tarun shared an honest and refreshing take on industry pressure. “I’m sure something is running in the back of my head,” he admitted with a laugh, “but I really don’t think much about it. When you haven’t made a film for 17 years, you aren’t thinking about numbers. You’re thinking about making something fun, something entertaining—for the audience and for yourself.” His philosophy is simple: create joy first, let the rest follow.
Tarun also praised his producers for keeping the pressure away from him during the making of Housefull 5. “They never send the box-office headache to my side,” he said. “They tell me—‘you give your 100 percent, make the movie you want, and we’ll take care of the rest.’ And that trust means everything.” In a world where every Friday brings a fresh storm of numbers, trends, and verdicts, Tarun’s perspective feels almost rebellious—and deeply refreshing.
His grand return couldn’t be more spectacular. Housefull 5, released on June 6, 2025, brings together one of the biggest ensemble casts in recent memory: Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer, and Johnny Lever. The film spins a riotous murder-mystery comedy aboard a luxury cruise, where a swarm of imposters compete to prove they are the real heir to a billionaire’s fortune.
With its massive cast, chaotic comedy, and whodunit twists, Housefull 5 marks a triumphant and unapologetically entertaining comeback for Tarun Mansukhani—one that proves sometimes the best way to win the box office is not to think about it at all.
