Netflix is starting 2026 on a tense note with the release of Run Away, its latest Harlan Coben thriller adaptation—complete with missing daughters, dangerous secrets, and a father pushed far beyond his breaking point. The newly released official trailer gives a chilling preview of what’s ahead, opening with the haunting line: “Paige couldn’t have done this…” followed by the unnerving reply, “No, but you could’ve…”
Just like Coben’s previous hit adaptations, Run Away relocates the story from the U.S. to the U.K., with filming taking place across Manchester and the North West of England. The 8-episode limited series drops on January 1st, 2026, making it one of Netflix’s first major offerings of the new year. At the center of this twisted tale is Simon, played by James Nesbitt, a man whose seemingly perfect life shatters when his eldest daughter, Paige, spirals into drug addiction and disappears. When he finally finds her in a city park—fragile, terrified, and surrounded by danger—Simon thinks he’s being given a second chance. But an argument with the man she’s with ignites a shocking act of violence that sends Paige vanishing into the shadows yet again.
What follows is a frantic, high-stakes search that pulls Simon into a criminal underworld filled with lies, betrayal, and long-buried family secrets.
Alongside Nesbitt, the series features a strong ensemble cast including Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, Jon Pointing, Ellie de Lange, Adrian Greensmith, Ellie Henry, Tracy-Ann Oberman, and Annette Badland.
While the trailer hints at some slightly over-the-top detective moments—particularly involving a PI who loves doing her own fieldwork—it still promises the signature Coben mix of suspense, emotional drama, and shocking twists.
Run Away is written by Danny Brocklehurst with contributions from Tom Farrelly, Amanda Duke, and Charlotte Coben. Episodes are directed by Nimer Rashed and Isher Sahota, produced by Guy Hescott and Will McDonagh, and made under Quay Street Productions, the same team behind Fool Me Once and Missing You.
