The first trailer for Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” has set the internet buzzing, promising a visually lavish, boundary-pushing adaptation of Emily Brontë’s timeless romance. Warner Bros. unveiled the trailer ahead of the film’s Valentine’s Day 2026 release, giving audiences a taste of the hyper-charged chemistry between leads Margot Robbie (as Catherine Earnshaw) and Jacob Elordi (as Heathcliff). Set against the haunting, wind-swept moors of Yorkshire, the trailer hints at a passionate and volatile love story, simultaneously faithful to Brontë’s spirit and unafraid to push sensual and emotional boundaries.

Emerald Fennell, fresh off hits like “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn,” puts her signature stamp on the adaptation, infusing the classic with a hyper-sexualized aesthetic and over-the-top period details. The cinematography by Linus Sandgren is immediately striking, with bold use of light and shadow reinforcing the story’s moodiness. Fennell herself has a reputation for stylized, provocative storytelling, and initial reactions suggest this may be the most radical cinematic take on “Wuthering Heights” to date.

Fans of the original novel will note significant departures in tone and presentation. The trailer foregrounds the erotic charge and destructive obsession between Catherine and Heathcliff, teasing scenes of rain-soaked embraces, reckless abandon, and tempestuous fighting. Social media reactions have quickly polarized: some viewers praise the film’s daring, while others express concerns that the adaptation dwells too much on the “horny” and lavish, possibly overshadowing the book’s tragic depth.

Regardless of controversy, the cast is drawing attention. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi anchor the film as the doomed lovers, supported by talented actors Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell. The film also boasts a strong creative team—Oscar-winning production designer Suzie Davies and BAFTA-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran elevate the immersive period look, while original songs by Charli XCX add a contemporary edge to the soundtrack. Set to open in theaters nationwide on February 13, 2026, Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” positions itself as both a love story for a new generation and a visually arresting reimagining of a literary masterpiece.
