Shahid Kapoor’s much-awaited film Deva has already created a buzz among audiences with the release of its teaser this past Sunday. The teaser has left fans eagerly anticipating what promises to be an action-packed, thrilling ride. At the teaser launch, Shahid opened up about the film, his role, and working with director Roshan Andrews, who is making his Bollywood debut with Deva.
Shahid described Deva as a film made specifically for the audience, or as he put it, “This film is for the janta.” He went on to explain that the movie is a reflection of Mumbai itself—combining beauty and grit, chaos and charm. Shahid said:
“This film is about experiencing two personalities in one character. The character’s name is Dev, but there’s also an 'A' in it. We all have two kinds of beasts inside us—Deva and Asur. This film explores both sides. Mumbai, too, is like that. It has both beauty and raw, edgy elements. That’s what makes the city so special. We’ve made this film to share that with the audience, and Deva is for the janta.”
Shahid also expressed a deep personal connection to the character and the story, revealing that Deva feels like a piece of his heart. He shared that for years, fans and well-wishers had been asking him to take on a more mass-oriented film—something that connects with the larger audience. Deva is his answer to that call:
“For many years, people have been telling me to do a massy film. Something where you go out and do it for the masses. So for me, Deva is that next step in my journey as an actor. It’s a character that’s for the people, and that makes it all the more special.”
Shahid admitted that playing Deva was a particularly challenging role for him. He described it as possibly his most difficult film to date. He shared,"This has probably been my most challenging film as an actor yet. It was very, very challenging to do. There’s a lot packed into this character, and there’s a bit of Deva in all of us. You’ll experience that magic through the film.”
With its gripping story, Shahid Kapoor’s intense portrayal of Deva, and the magic of Mumbai woven into the narrative, Deva is shaping up to be a thrilling cinematic experience for fans and audiences alike.
