Boman Irani, known for his impeccable acting talent, is now venturing into the world of direction with his much-anticipated emotional drama The Mehta Boys. The film, which Boman co-wrote with Alexander Dinelaris, was screened recently at the prestigious Kala Ghoda Festival at Regal Cinema in Mumbai. The screening was an emotional moment for Boman, who not only directed and co-wrote the film but also starred in it alongside a talented ensemble cast including Shreya Chaudhry, Puja Sarup, and Avinash Tiwary.

Reflecting on the journey of making The Mehta Boys, Boman shared the challenges he faced during the process. He emphasized how vital preparation was to the success of the project. “The journey of this film was not easy. Preparation is the most important,” Boman said. “While writing this movie, I worked really hard so that I don’t have to find solutions after being on the sets. I even wrote down camera angles, so that when I go to the sets, I could enjoy the acting without any hassle. I took my time with the writing process, and it benefited me.” His meticulous approach to pre-production is evident in the final product, which has already garnered praise for its emotional depth and intricate storytelling.

The Mehta Boys tells the poignant story of a father and son embarking on a 48-hour odyssey, grappling with their conflicting perspectives as they navigate the complexities of their strained relationship. It’s a deeply human exploration of family dynamics, offering viewers an emotional journey that stays with them long after the credits roll.

During the screening, Boman also took a trip down memory lane, sharing his personal connection with Regal Cinema and Kala Ghoda. "The first time I came to Kala Ghoda, it was their first year. I did an acting workshop with Saurabh Shukla, and ever since, it’s been growing from strength to strength. This festival is now a marvelous success," he reminisced. He also shared a nostalgic story from his childhood, “I used to live in Nagpada, and I would catch a local bus and get down near the museum. My mother taught me how to cross the road, and as a little kid, I would come here all by myself to watch movies at Regal Cinema. It feels incredible to have my film screened here today."

With a deep sense of gratitude, Boman concluded, “There’s no theatrical release for The Mehta Boys, but I’m fortunate that my film is being screened here at Regal Cinema. All my friends, family, cast, and crew, along with my students from the Spiralbound group, are here today to watch it. It feels like I’ve graduated, and this is my passing out party.”

The Mehta Boys will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting February 7, 2025, and given Boman's heartfelt dedication to the project, it's bound to be a must-watch. A new chapter has begun for this versatile actor-turned-director, and the excitement surrounding the release is palpable
