Veteran actor Anupam Kher, known for his decades-long contribution to Indian cinema, unveiled the lead actress of his new directorial venture Tanvi The Great at a special event, introducing newcomer Shubhangi in the title role. Speaking with emotion and clarity, Kher shared the philosophy behind the film, his process of reinvention, and the journey ahead—including a prestigious premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
As he revealed Shubhangi as the face of Tanvi, Kher made it a point to honor the crew that made the film possible: “Ours is the first company that introduced all the technicians of the film before even introducing the lead actress. Because actors are not the backbone—the real backbone of a film are the people who prepare the actors. Whether it’s through costume, makeup, sets, or music, they are the ones who truly shape the story.”
Kher emphasized the collective effort that brought Tanvi The Great to life, calling attention to often-unsung heroes behind the camera.
He spoke passionately about the unique essence of the story, revealing that while more big names from Indian cinema are part of the cast, they will be revealed gradually:“Tanvi is both the hero and the heroine of the film. We have some unbelievable actors from Indian cinema in the film. We’ll reveal them one by one.”
In a significant move, Kher shared that the film will premiere internationally before its release in India: “The film will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. I want to take it abroad first—then we’ll premiere it in London, New York, and Los Angeles. And soon after, we’ll bring it to the audience here.”
This global strategy signals Kher’s intent to position Tanvi The Great as a universal story with emotional resonance beyond borders.
Kher also opened up about his personal growth and the need to challenge himself creatively: “I’m launching myself again as a director. It’s very important to reinvent yourself—not just as an actor, but as a person. I felt I needed to reinvent myself. I asked myself—how could I make my job more difficult? And the answer was: direct a film. For the next 10–15 years, I want to take on both roles—director and actor. The more you challenge yourself in your work, the greater the chance of growth.”
Tanvi The Great marks a powerful return for Anupam Kher as a filmmaker, combining deep emotional storytelling with global ambition and heartfelt tribute to his cast and crew. As the film prepares to debut at Cannes, audiences worldwide await the unveiling of this labor of love.
