Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan was present at the trailer launch of the upcoming Netflix action thriller Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins, where he opened up about his intriguing character and what draws him to heist films.
Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, and produced by Siddharth Anand’s Marflix Pictures, the film features a powerful ensemble cast including Jaideep Ahlawat, Nikita Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor. Jewel Thief is set to premiere globally on Netflix on April 25, 2025.
Speaking about the film’s theme and the moral complexity of his character, Saif said:"In a heist film like this, the lines between hero, anti-hero, and mastermind are often blurred. The lovely thing I love about heist films is that the guy does something technically wrong—he breaks the law—but he does it for a good reason. Maybe to help someone in his family. It becomes an honourable kind of theft."
The actor further explained why audiences are drawn to such morally ambiguous stories:"People enjoy watching movies like these where someone breaks the law. It gives them a chance to take on the system, even if just through the screen. That’s what heist films are about."
Saif also praised his co-star Jaideep Ahlawat, who plays a strong antagonist in the film:“It’s got a strong anti-hero antagonist in Jaideep. That’s what made being part of this film so enjoyable.”
