The much-anticipated biopic Phule, which chronicles the lives and legacy of legendary social reformers Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, was screened in Mumbai on Thursday evening. The film stars Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa in the lead roles, portraying the revolutionary couple who tirelessly fought against caste oppression and gender inequality in 19th-century India. Directed by veteran filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan, Phule aims to shed light on their enduring impact on Indian society, both historically and in the current socio-political climate.
The evening was not just a cinematic celebration but also a moment of solemn remembrance. The cast and crew donned black pin badges and observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The gesture underscored a powerful message of unity and compassion, resonating with the values that the Phules stood for throughout their lives.
The screening saw a gathering of Bollywood celebrities and industry stalwarts, adding a touch of glamour to the socially conscious event. Lead actors Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa were present, with the latter accompanied by her husband, actor Rajkummar Rao. Phule is jointly produced by Dancing Shiva Films and Kingsmen Productions, with Zee Studios managing its theatrical release.
