
Well, the ‘Rajani’ magic will soon return, as the writer of the original series Karan Razdan is planning to produce a sequel of the show.
Titled ‘Rajani Returns’, the show will have Rajani’s daughter, Rashmi enacting the lead role, and following the path left wide open by her mother.
And to play the lead role of Rashmi Rajani Prabhakar, the maker has zeroed in young talent Srishti Maheshwari, who played the negative lead of Megan in Life OK’s Laut Aao Trisha.
A reliable source states, “Karan Razdan has been pitching the idea of the sequel to many a channels. However, the team will first shoot the pilot and then take the idea forward of signing the deal with one particular channel. Having said this, Doordarshan (on which the original series ran) also seems to be playing on the idea of grabbing the sequel rights for their channel.”
Producer and Writer Karan Razdan states, “Yes, Rajani is going to be back with its sequel, Rajani Returns. And Rajani’s daughter will carry forward the mantle of eradicating the social evils of today (smiles)".
Talking about the issues that will be targeted, Razdan said, “Every issue of today, starting from all the slams, to rape, to giving a good future to the girl child, evils against Swachh Bharat, eve-teasing etc will be focussed.”
On the channel chosen for the sequel, the Producer stated, “Well, that’s not yet decided as there are multiple channels in talks. So let’s wait for the right time.”
Most importantly, when quizzed about the lead girl Srishti, Razdan quipped, “Guess you know everything, right? We will talk when the time is right.”
Rajani, the popular TV series on Doordarshan that aired in the mid 80’s is even today a landmark show when it comes to creating awareness in the minds of masses. The manner in which talented actress Priya Tendulkar, as the popular Rajani fought government laxities in every episode was heart-warming for the viewers.
