Helmed by Mani Ratnam, titled as Ponniyin Selvan: I or PS-1, is a forthcoming multi-lingual epic period drama is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. The motion poster for the first part is out along with its release date. 
 
The film is bankrolled by Madras Talkies, along with Allirajah Subaskaran under the banner Lyca Productions. The film is written by Ratnam along with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan.

The film stars an incredible ensemble case of Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, R. Sarathkumar, R. Parthiban, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman and others. 
 
The film's music is composed by A. R. Rahman, with cinematography handled by Ravi Varman, editing done by A. Sreekar Prasad and production design by Thota Tharani respectively.
 
Made on a budget of 500 crore, Ponniyin Selvan: I is one of the most expensive Indian films. The film is scheduled to be have a worldwide theatrical release on 30 September 2022.
