Google Pays Tribute to Rajkumar on his 88th Birthday

Google Doodle pays tribute to Kannada Superstar and Legendary Actor Rajkumar on his 88th Birthday.

The bright colourful doodle sees Rajkumar on the silver screen while the audience cheers on. The Doodle will be seen for the entire day today. This not the first time Google is paying a special tribute to an Indian.

The late star is considered as a cultural icon, and also holds a matinee idol status in the Kannada region. The veteran actor is a four time National Award winner and had worked in several greatest movies of his time. He entered films in 1954 and went on to star in over 220 films, his last one being Shabdavedhi in 2000.

The actor, who was also fondly called Appaji, won several accolades and honours during his lifetime. The Padma Bhushan winner was a recipient of 11 Karnataka State Film Awards and 10 South Filmfare Awards.

The legendary actor earned an honorary doctorate from the University of Mysore and was addressed as Dr Rajkumar. Not only this, Rajkumar also won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1995.

In unfortunate turn of events, the actor was kidnapped by notorious smuggler Veerappan. The incident happened when Rajkumar was 71-years-old. He was held captive for 108 days and this unfortunate incident led to a toll on his health.

The iconic actor passed away on April 12, 2006.
