Isha Dhingra’s label, ‘Aikeyah’ is known for its variety of embroidery techniques like Phulkari, Kantha, Gara, Aari, Kashidakam and Isha, the designer has an artistic bend of mind as a painter, embroiderer and dressmaker.
‘Aikeyah’, which means “own identity” in Sanskrit started in 2012, has been influenced by Isha’s travels, literature and history, when it came to designing the collections. The line “Summer 2019” for Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019 by ‘Aikeyah’ was homage to fashion in white. It was a serene, calm, almost meditative line of clothing for fashionistas who want to dress themselves in a peaceful line of ensembles.
The sheer, almost transparent layers, which floated down the runway, had ‘Aikeyah’s’ signature aesthetics that appeared for the silhouettes; while the intricate embellishments ensured that the total look complemented the inspiration and the title of the line.
The fine leaf embroidery on sheers appeared for the drop-waist dresses, as well as the kimono style covers, worn with draped gowns in shades of white.
Gorgeous feminine beauties that looked stunning were the lace, layered dress, stylish coat dress, low-crotch pants with lace-edged tunic. The bell-sleeves for tops, and embroidered bodice for a midi dress completed the look. The sheer nature of the layered smock with a lace collar gave a fresh dimension to the dress and the fully appliquéd, layered maxi revealed the beauty of the embroidery. There was a marked retro feel about the collection, but it was aimed at the formal wear dresser who wants to make a striking impact on entering a room.
When fashion watchers want to move into calm, stylish waters with their garments then the “Summer 2019” collection by Isha Dhingra for her ‘Aikeyah’ label will create the perfect mood.
