Thomas Cook Travel Quest - India’s first national travel quiz for school students concluded its City and West Zonal Finals today at Indian Education Society, S.K, Marg, Bandra Reclamation declaring Isha Pravin Mahajan and Purva Prasad Sawant from VPM Vidyamandir, Mumbai as the City Finals winner and Jeson Devadoss & Ved. S. Irwadkar from The Bishop’s School, Pune (Camp) as the winner of the West Zonal Finals ensuring an entry to the National finals. Present at the event were Mr. Madhavan Menon, Managing Director, Thomas Cook India, Mr. Abraham Alapatt, Chief Innovation Officer & Head – Marketing and Service Quality, Thomas Cook India, Mr. Giri ‘Pickbrain’, Quizmaster, Greycaps India Private Limited, Ms. Bridget Goh, Area Director, India & Sri Lanka- Singapore Tourism Board, heads of Mumbai’s leading educational institutions, parents and students.
With over 50% of India under the age of 25 years and the country set to become the world’s youngest nation by 2020, this changing young demographic with growing aspirations seeks exposure to a global curriculum. With opportunities increasingly being built into the curriculum of progressive schools in India, Thomas Cook India’s Travel Quest sets out to serve these schools and enthuse India’s students via its fresh, vibrant travel quiz platform, promoting a fun and enriching approach to global learning - to help create a globally aware and confident young Indian.
For this unique initiative, Thomas Cook India has partnered with Greycaps India Private Limited - Asia's largest on stage quizzing and knowledge services company, curated by noted quizmaster Mr. Giri Pickbrain with the focus being on History & Geography.
Following an extensive School Outreach programme that covered 60 educational institutions in Mumbai and across Indore, Ahmedabad and Pune school level preliminary written tests were conducted and five teams were selected to compete for the City as well as Zonal Finals over 30000 students from over 50 schools across Mumbai and over 75000 students across the Western cities from over 140 schools participated in the Thomas Cook Travel Quest quiz, with more than 1500 students qualifying for the City Finals.Top 4 City Finalists competed for the Western Zonal title. The proud winners of the West Zonal team, The Bishop’s School, Pune (Camp) will now participate in the National Finals in Mumbai along with winners of the South, East and North Zonal Rounds.
The winning students of the West Zonal will get a free experiential trip to Picardy (France) while City Finalists of all 4 Western cities will be hosted by Singapore Tourism Board for a fun and learn experiential study tour to Singapore.
