Though the deadline for digitisation of existing analogue Cable TV networks has been revised to October 31, 2o12, it seems Mumbai cable operators will soon complete the task before the deadline. Off the estimated requirement of 34.85 lakhs Set up boxes, 17.07 lakhs STBs have already been installed. The data was revealed in a review by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting which has made the digitization mandatory in the four metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
Till now in India cable TV signals are of analogue type. Now all analogue cable TV signals will be replaced by digital signals, due to The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Act. The cable wires will be replaced by set up box technology for better cable TV quality. The customers are required to buy a set up box like DTH services for receiving digital cable TV signals. It will increase the quality, features and cable TV experience in a positive manner. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has initially regulated this act in metro cities.
