The track, which, for those keeping score at home, is the fourth Taylor has previewed in the lead-up to Red, which is out Monday following in the footsteps of “Begin Again,” “Red” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” and it splits the difference between the pop sensibilities and bittersweet sentiments of its predecessors.
And that’s probably because it is very much about one of Swift’s favorite subjects — love — as she explained on “GMA” Monday.
“I wrote this song about when you first fall in love with someone … the possibilities, kind of thinking about the different ways that it could go,” she said. “It’s a really big sound. To me, this sounds like the feeling of falling in love in an epic way … I hope you like it.”
And it appears her fans really do: “State of Grace” currently sits at #1 on the iTunes singles list, just ahead of “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Oh, and “Never Ever” is in at #9. And as if all of that doesn’t bode well enough for Red’s seemingly gigantic first week, Swift will celebrate the release of the album with a two-day stand on “Good Morning America,” set for Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Jon Hamm, Jennifer Westfeldt split after 16 years.
