
The American Film Institute is celebrating that "wild and crazy guy." AFI will present Steve Martin with its 43rd AFI Life Achievement Awards at a gala tribute in Los Angeles next June. Board of Trustees chair Sir Howard Stringer calls Martin "an American original" and a "multi-layered creative force bound by neither convention or caution."
film career took off in 1979 with the Carl Reiner movie The Jerk. He then followed in the 1980s with starring roles in Pennies From Heaven, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, The Man With Two Brains, The Lonely Guy, All of Me, Three Amigos, Roxanne, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Parenthood.
Since his breakout decade, other films have included L.A. Story,Fa ther of the Bride, Leap of Faith, The Spanish Prisoner, Bowfinger, Cheaper by the Dozen, Shopgirl and The Pink Panther.
AFI's tribute to Steve Martin will take place on June 4th, 2015. The event will be taped to air on TNT and rebroadcast on Turner Classic Movies.
