Director Justin Lin has announced the upcoming third installment of the Star Trek reboot franchise. The film will be called Star Trek Beyond.
Rumours were rife that movie is already on its way but makers were trying to keep everything under wraps, but writer Simon Pegg let it slip during an interview a few weeks ago. Now it’s official and confirmed by director Justin lee.
“Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP” Tweeted the director Justin Lee with a close-up picture of a Starfleet badge.
The second hashtag Star Trek Beyond happens to be the title of the third movie in the rebooted Star Trek franchise. Star Trek Beyond follows a convention set by the previous film, Star Trek Into Darkness.
Lin, best known for directing many of the Fast and Furious movies, takes over directorial duties from JJ Abrams, who helmed the previous two Star Trek films and is now producing the third.
Series stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are returning for the third outing, which is expected to release on July 8, 2016.
