Hans Petter Moland talks about why he chose to remake Cold Pursuit

Sanyukta Thakare | February, 05 2019

Cold Pursuit directed by Hans Petter Moland is a remake of his 2014 Norwegian film titled, 'In Order Of Disappearance'.

The director says that he never planned to remake the film. “Originally I just thought, you know, we'd sell the rights and that was it. It was Michael Schamberg (producer) who suggested I should do it. He said that he thought I would be able to do it. It's very hard to strike that tone I guess and so he suggested that I do it or he wouldn't do it at all.

I took him up on him. I had to think about it. It's a little bit like having put on a play somewhere in a far-off region and then being asked to put it on for a new audience, for a greater audience, you know, you do that all the time. It's not so common with the films. I mean films are remade all the time but not necessarily by the same director. I think the common idea is that you shouldn't redo your own film but I thought I'd try to prove that wrong, so we'll see,” he says.
Talking about the process of making the film, he says, “It didn't take long for it to take on a life of its own, different actors, different situations. Also, being inspired by a new process. I mean part of filmmaking is really being it's like writing a vial pool. It's like allowing yourself to be, you know draw inspiration and draw excitement out of a new process or whatever process. So, for me, that very early on took on a new life,” he says.

Director Hans Petter Moland’s Cold Pursuit starring  Liam Neeson,Tom Bateman, Tom Jackson,  Emmy Rossum,  Domenick Lombardozzi,  Julia Jones and John Doman to release on 8th February in India by PVR PICTURES.
