William H. Macy, Joan Allen and Jacob Tremblay have joined Brie Larson in the cast of family drama “Room.”
Based on the Emma Donoghue novel of the same name and told through the eyes of 5-year-old-Jack (Tremblay), “Room” follows the boy and his mother who have been held captive for years. To Jack, Room is the world. It's where he was born, it's where he and his Ma (Larson) eat, sleep, play and learn. But while it's home to Jack, to Ma it's a prison. Through her fierce love for her son, Ma has managed to create a childhood for him in their 10-by-10-foot space. But as Jack's curiosity is building alongside Ma's own desperation, she knows that Room cannot contain either indefinitely.
Lenny Abrahamson has started production in Toronto and is directing from Donoghue’s script. Larson plays the mother; Sean Bridgers, Tom McCamus and Megan Park have also joined the cast.
Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and David Gross are producing. Exec producers are Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures and Jeff Arkuss and Jesse Shapira for No Trace Camping along with Donoghue, Rose Garnett and Tessa Ross.
A24 acquired U.S. rights to the film at Cannes. Elevation Pictures is distributing the film in Canada. UTA handled the domestic sale. FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales at AFM.
