"The Lunchbox" is all about ordinary people doing the extraordinary

News Helpline | September, 20 2013

Irrfan is eagerly awaiting the response to his critically-acclaimed film, The Lunchbox, in his home country. "It is not that there is big suspense, because we already know people's reactions. I just want to know how Indians will connect to it," says the actor. The movie has so far been appreciated at film festivals across the globe, with its theme — essentially a love story between two strangers — striking a chord with most who've watched it. "The Lunchbox is dedicated to housewives and also those people who have lost the magic in their lives. It shows you how circumstances bring out the extraordinary in the most ordinary people and also inspires you to fall in love. It has got a universal appeal with its own standing," adds Irrfan. Actress Nimrat Kaur, who makes her debut with this film, further says, "This is not just a film anymore, it's an example.... A lost language revived, a rare purity, its appeal crosses all borders of culture, language and age." Karan Johar, one of the producers, concludes, "It's undoubtedly the finest film I have seen in a very long time. It reinvents the wheel of love and serves a meal of emotion in the most nuanced way ever." The Lunchbox, presented by UTV Motion Pictures and Karan Johar in association with DAR Motion Pictures, releases today
