If the director of the Shangai, Dibakar Banerjee, is to be believed, the film which had received mixed response from audiences and critics is doing more than expected business at the box-office. Shangai had hit theaters on 8th June 2012.
Shangai is made within the budget of 19cr including marketing. But the film recovered 12cr in the opening weekend itself though the start was slow on first day. Also the film had bagged whopping Rs 16cr from the music and satellite rights.
Talking about appreciation he has received from people, Banerjee said: "I have got 200 texts from people in the industry, my college, school, neighborhood and all. They loved the film and are highly impressed by it.
He also added, "The film has impacted people regardless of the fact whether they are actors or normal people like us. There are a lot of people who have not liked the film, which is good. If a film polarizes people and if they are talking about it, then it can't be ignored."
