March 23 is the day when the trio of freedom heroes Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged to death. That was the day they were also known as martyrs due to efforts they put in to achieve independence for the country.
Bollywood has especially been fascinated with the story of Bhagat Singh. ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh starring Ajay Devgan, Sushant Singh and 23rd March 1931 : Shaheed starring Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol were two films based completely on the story of three heroes. And immensely loved and popular film ‘Rang de Basanti’ was also inspired from this inspiring tale.
Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar who has sung popular patriotic numbers like ‘Ae mere watan ke logon’ also remembered Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the historic day. She tweeted, ‘Aaj ke din Bharat Mata ke mahan Veer Saput Bhagat Singh ji ,Rajguru ji aur Sukhdev ji Ko Faansi ki saza di gayi thi.Aaj hum jo Aazad Bharat mein jee rahe hai iski neev in jaise kai angeenat veero'n ki qurbaani hai .in Veero'n ko main Shraddhanjali arpan karti hun,koti koti pranam karti hun .Aaj is Shaheed Diwas par ek geet jo un dino'n Bhagat Singh ji ka Pyara tha wo aap sab ke liye Sonu Nigam ki aawaz mein.’ She shared the link of Sonu Nigam’s beautiful track ‘Rand de Basanti’ along with it.
When veterans like Lata Mangeshkar who has seen pre-independence era speaks about them we feel more drawn to our freedom movement.
