Jackky Bhagnani wins Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award

Joel Kurian | April, 22 2015

The Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Awards were held in Mumbai and the event was graced by some popular stars of the industry. The biggest surprise of the event was Jackky Bhagnani winning an award for his performance in his last film Youngistaan. Jackky shared his joy about the achievement on Twitter by posting pictures with the trophy along with the caption ‘Honoured! Humbled! Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award- Best Performer, Youngistaan! #OnTopOfTheWorld wali feeling’.

The surprise is with the fact that the film didn’t do well at the box-office. And neither were the critics’ reviews for the film extraordinary but were largely decent to good. Though Jaccky’s performance was generally appreciated, there weren’t any overtly special reviews for him. In fact, out of all the award shows held this year, hardly any of them acknowledged Jackky’s effort or Youngistaan.

The most likely reason for the award though, could be the fact that he played the Prime Minister of India in the movie. The emotional story of becoming the Prime Minister due to untimely death of his father perhaps connected with the jury. There haven’t been many movies about someone playing a prime minister before. And some of the aspects of taking care of the country along with difficulties in meeting his live-in girlfriend were shown well in the film. Several had drawn comparisons with his character and that of Rahul Gandhi.

Badhshah Shah Rukh Khan also received an award for Happy New Year while veteran actress Jaya Prada also bagged an award at the event.
