
Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab is considered as one of the most sacred festivals of the Sikhs. It is the day that celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak, the first of the ten Sikh Gurus and one who shaped the beliefs of the community and Bollywood celebrities’ shares warm wishes on the day.
Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Randeep Hooda, Ajay Devgn and Aditi Rao Hydari shared warm wishes on social media.

The saint was born on April 15, 1469, by the Nanakshahi almanac, which corresponds with November by the lunar calendar. The seer, first among 10 gurus, passed away on September 22, 1539, in Kartarpur, now in Pakistan, at age 70.
The celebrations of the festival begin two days ago with Gurudwaras holding a forty-eight-hour long non-stop reading of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs, known as the Akhand Path.
