
Salman Khan’s step mother, versatile actress and dancer Helen rang in her 78th birthday recently, which of course was a reason for the Khans to celebrate. And amid all the celebrations Arpita Khan Sharma posted some candid picture of the celebration.
Arpita posted the pictures on Instagram, she captioned it with, “Happy Birthday Helen Aunty, hope u had a fabulous day and have a fabulous year ahead. Big hugs and lots of love”
The picture shows Helen cutting her birthday cake in one picture and has Alvira posing with her in another.
Helen Ann Richardson, popularly known as only Helen is a Burma-born Indian film actress and dancer, working in Hindi films. She has appeared in over 700 films, and is often cited as the most popular nautch dancer of her time.
She was the inspiration for four films and a book. She is the second wife of veteran writer-producer Salim Khan, who was already married and the father of four children; Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan and one daughter, Alvira Khan.
Helen joined the Khan family and had a large role in keeping the family united. All of Helen's step-children have bonded closely with her.
Helen debuted with the song "Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu" in Shakti Samanta's film, Howrah Bridge, which was sung by Geeta Dutt.
Helen was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1965 for her role in Gumnaam. She played dramatic roles such as the rape victim in Shakti Samanta's Pagla Kahin Ka (1970).
Salim Khan helped her get roles in some of the films he was co-scripting with Javed Akhtar: Immaan Dharam, Don, Dostana, and Sholay. This was followed by a role in Mahesh Bhatt's film Lahu Ke Do Rang (1979), for which she won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. In 1999 Helen was given India's Filmfare lifetime achievement award.
Helen officially retired from movies in 1983.
