If you have watched the song "Ud-daa Punjab", you'd know the song is re-edited and some of the original lines has been replaced but now the movie has landed in really deep soup, as the Censor Board has suggest the word "Punjab" be removed from the title.
Massive cuts, title change, lyrics change and hardcore political drama has followed Abhishek Chaubey's directorial Udta Punjab since it's trailer launch and with Anurag Kashyap as co-producer, things aren't looking very pretty for the film.
"Right now we are waiting and watching, we don't have much to share or say! We are hoping that eventually everybody's happy but at this stage to confirm details about cuts, is not right because we don't have an idea. Genuinely there is no clarity in this matter. As of now, we are just doing our job" says Alia, when asked about Censor Board Controversy.
The film, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, is a drug-themed drama, which came under scrutiny of the CBFC for its depiction of heavy substance abuse and use of swear words. However, it seems the bigger problem is political pressure from the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab, as elections are around the corner.
Movie is under Revising Committee panel, after screening some members suggested "Title Change" and some didn't, which hasn't been confirmed as yet.
Movie is slated for June 17th release, if all the censor requirements are met!
