The response to Aamir Khan’s small-screen debut has been the subject of breathless speculation, sometimes appearing to exceed the hype around his films. The show has seen huge positive sentiment across viewers. However“Satyamev Jayate” which has clocked an opening television rating of 3.8 is said to be lagging behind KBC in terms of Television Ratings. It was anticipated that the show will break all the past records but it couldn’t happened in reality. Finally, the ball has undoubtedly gone to the court of Amitabh Bachchan whose television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati had clocked a record opening TVR of 19.75 in its season two.
Amitabh Bachchan indeed changed the face of television with Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000 and also changed the fortunes of Star Plus. When Shah Rukh Khan took over from Bachchan in the third season of the channel’s flagship show he too managed to generate good ratings. But he failed to recreate that magic in his third innings as the host of Zor Ka Jhatka Total Wipe Out on Imagine TV. Salman Khan with his TV debut with Dus Ka Dum had viewers glued to the idiot box. But the success of KBC has proved that Amitabh not a Big B of silver screen but also of a small screen.
People had huge expectations from Aamir’s Satyamev Jayate because of the secrecy surrounding it; no one knew the core concept of the show till it was aired on 6th May. Perhaps, the reasons behind not getting a record breaking TVR is that the show holds a serious subject and is being aired in weekend morning slot. One can analyze and debate that but for now it is the numbers that everyone is focusing on.
