A R Rahman highlights importance of vaccines on World Immunization Day

Joel Kurian | April, 28 2015

Legendary music composer A R Rahman is always known as a man of few words. And he is not someone who would tweet about each and every activity of his life. He would talk about some important developments related to his music or he talks about social issues. He highlighted an extremely important issue of vaccination by writing on Twitter and Facebook, ‘Celebrate World Immunization Week from April 24-30 by helping us spread the word that#vaccineswork. Learn what Rotary is doing to help end polio for good: endpolio.org’.  He also posted a picture carrying all the statistics and factors related to polio patients and vaccinations.

The World Immunization Week is an initiative of the World Health Organization. The organization is particularly focusing on saving those 1.5 million deaths that occur every year due to the lack of immunization. In 2013, about 22 million infants all over the world didn’t receive the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-containing vaccines and WHO is reaching out to end the disability and death caused due to lack of vaccinations.

Recently, Rahman also spoke about the gender discrimination and highlighted the achievements of Sania Mirza, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal and women hockey team.  He has also supported another WHO project for eradication of tuberculosis Stop TB Partnership, Save the Children who were affected by the 2004 Tsunami.
