Roar: Tigers Of The Sundarbans offers an adventure of a lifetime for audiences with a peak into the thrilling and mysterious world of the elusive Sundarbans tigers. Each and every sequence in the film put the team in considerable peril, but the determination and drive of the cast and crew ensured that each aspect was executed beautifully.
One of the actors, Varinder Singh Ghuman, world’s only vegetarian professional body builder who has competed in the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding contest, had a close brush with death while shooting for a scene. "We knew shooting in the Sundarbans would be a challenge, we also foresaw the danger that we would be put in, but seeing Varinder in danger was a reminder that anything could happen, and the fear was real. But not once did Varinder reflect any hint of panic and fear even though he didn’t know how to swim. He not only has a strong body but a heart to match it as well."says producer Abis Rizvi.
There is a sequence in the movie in which a tiger attacks a boat carrying the actors, and Varinder falls off the boat with his leg entangled in the boat's net. This proved to be very dangerous because the 130 kg heavy weight didn't know how to swim! The crocodile and snake infested waters made the situation even more dangerous. Says Varinder "I knew it would be a dangerous gamble and going underwater for 15 seconds was both terrifying and exhilarating. My only worry was even if I had to be saved, lifting a 130 kg man out of the murky waters would've been next to impossible!" Says director Kamal Sadanah, "When Varinder went underwater, all of us held our breath for what seemed like an eternity, it was only when he surfaced that there was a collective sigh of relief."
However, we hear that this sequence is one of the best scenes ever filmed in the movie. Roar has an enviable crew with the likes of Michael Watson (Skyline) as the director of photography and digital agency Anibrain, bringing the best of Hollywood VFX to Indian shores.
Roar: Tigers Of The Sundarbans, produced by Abis Rizvi and directed by Kamal Sadanah released on October 31st.
