Dum Laga Ke Haisha, a charming love story of a mismatched couple, a dreamy loser and his over-sized wife set on banks of Haridwar, marks the second movie for Director Sharat Katariya.
“Success of the movie is a surprise to me, I am a new maker, my lead actress is new, my lead hero recently had a flop” Says a humble and shy Sharat.
In this age of mega-budget, multi starrer, special effect and item number oriented movies, Sharat rolled out a 90’s retro thumka and desi tadka.
“I wanted to make a movie, which my wife liked, I think, it’s just my luck, that movie turned out to be commercially successful” Says Sharat.
One could easily relate with Movie ensemble characters, and breaking the conventional Akhada which could easily be associated with Haridwar, Sharat went with “RSS” he took care of every little detailing and kept it authentic. Characters were real and showed depth.
"Bhumi is natural and she can mug-up dialogues like anything” says Sharat, about casting Bhumi, jokingly.
“I wanted someone who will look the part and not just be a pretty face. Seema Pahwa, who plays her mother's role, mentored her. Bhumi travelled with us to Haridwar and took to wearing sarees and jewellery like local women. She learnt how to cook and behave in certain manner. She was plump when she came onboard but she went onto gain 10 to 15 kgs more for the part," Says Sharat, who is proud with his choice.
“I was extremely lucky with the cast. We ate together, laughed, travelled and cried together. We believe in each other, they portrayed their role with conviction and honesty” Says Sharat.
Detailing especially in a particular scene where a grown-up married son gets beaten up by his dad, was extremely humorous and yet real.
“It’s common in middle class family. I have seen it in my family” says Sharat.
“I am in three movie deal with Yashraj, but I really don’t have any idea about my next project. I do love to work with Bhumi or a new artist” Says Sharat.
