Randhir Kapoor, son of legendary producer and director of Raj Kapoor feels that his father Raj Kapoor made socially relevant films.

Randhir Kapoor along with brothers Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor attended a special event ‘The Raj Kapoor Awards for Excellence in Entertainment’ to honor their father and legendary actor Raj Kapoor in Mumbai.

“He made all the socially relevant films. He never made an action film. He made a dacoit film, which has 11 songs, 11 dances and not a single fight, not even a single slap in the picture” said Randhir Kapoor.

Music played an integral part in all Raj Kapoor films and his son Rishi shared an interesting story which explains Raj Kapoor’s love for music. He said, “A peculiar thing that he possessed was that without learning, he used to play most of the percussion instruments. He used to play piano, harmonium and all the kind of rhythm instruments without learning and more than that, I feel he was very passionate about music as against today’s time when people find it tiresome to shoot a song but for him, it was a high and passion”

Besides the panel discussion, the evening also honoured filmmakers with the awards for excellence in cinema. Veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, the man behind all-time blockbuster Sholay, Shakti and Seeta Aur Geeta, was the first recipient of the award.

On the work front, Rishi Kapoor will be next seen sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in upcoming “102 Not Out”.
