Censor Board Vision is Narrow – Prakash Jha

Ravi Sharma | March, 21 2017

"Censor Board vision is Narrow” says Prakash Jha during his recent media interaction here in Mumbai.

Prakash Jha production, Lipstick Under My Burkha, was refused certification by Censor Board, which is not sitting well with filmmaker and producer, who has taken the movie to Tribunal Court.

“Whenever you have any kind of guideline, any individual or group of people will always interpret it with their own reference, so there is some kind of narrow vision, which propels them to think in the manner they have thought. But I don’t think that was intended, I don’t think that is how most of people sees the film” says Prakash Jha on Censor Board working.

“Lipstick Under My Burkha” stars an impressive ensemble of actors, which includes Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra, Plabita Borthakur and may more. The film has won many critical awards and appreciation overseas.

“This film has been appreciated and talked about in “women oriented” film festival across the globe and won many awards. So apart from Censor Board, no one has raised such issues” adds Prakash.

Censor Board has deemed the movie pornographic, abusive and offensive to one particular section of society.

“The movie doesn’t have any such thing, which excites any disturbance; there is nothing in the film which might hurt religious, personal or political sensibility. It is a common film, which exhibit female point of view, thinking, dream and thoughts” claims Prakash Jha.

“I am hopeful that Tribunal will think about the film with open heart and mind; they won’t look at with bias. It has been experience that movies get cleared in Tribunal court” adds Prakash.
