Censor-Board dictate over Bollywood is age old, but now more filmmaker are opposing the functioning of CBFC. National Award winner filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar expresses his view on censor board.
“People always had problem with CBFC. Whether Chandi Bar, Page 3 or Traffic Signal, I’ve always faced issues from CBFC. Like I said before, I think CBFC should be little more moderate. They should be pushing the envelope, not the other way around” says Madhur.
The Padma Shri awardee Madhur is known for his films like Traffic Signal, Chandni Bar and Page 3 that won him the National Film Award, had his troubles with Censor Board, but the filmmaker is hopeful that with time things will change.
“I think they will change gradually, time will change and I definitely want changes. This formulation of going to CBFC, then to revising committee and then you go Tribunal, this is a process and it takes time. I am a firm believer that gradually will come” said Madhur, when asked about censor board ongoing tussle with Lipstick Under my Burkha.
Madhur is currently busy wrapping with Indu Sarkar, based on the Emergency, a 21-month long period from 1975 to 1977, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally had a state of emergency declared across the country.
