Bejoy Nambiar “Aligarh is emotional, gut wrenching and stays with you”

Ravi Sharma | February, 24 2016

Wazir Director Bejoy Nambiar says that Aligarh and some of its scene won’t leave for you a long time, after the special screening of the film.

“When you walk out of film, it stays with you. Especially funeral Scene of Rajkumar was very beautiful. I am sure it won’t leave you for a long time” says Bejoy at the special screening of Aligarh.

Aligarh is based on the life of Indian linguist and author Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was suspended from his job because of his sexual orientation. Movie has amassed critical fan following and masses are just waiting for the film to release.

Manoj Bajpai plays the role of Siras, and Rajkummar Rao plays a journalist. The movie is said to release this weekend!

“I liked the movie, much more than what I heard about it. Aligarh is such an emotional film. It was a gut wrenching film. I am so overwhelmed with performances by Manoj Bajpai and Rajkumar Rao. I am so happy that this kind film is being made and this kind of subject is being tackled” says Bejoy.

“I am happy that we as audience are open to this kind content otherwise couple of years ago you wouldn’t have found backing a film like this, people are being part of this film, so it a very good and healthy trend. I am genuinely happy that filmmaker Hansal is brave enough to put up a film like this” adds Bejoy.

Bejoy firmly denies that bigger actors and actress try and avoid “off Beat” movies and stick with only main stream masala film.

“Bigger stars are also looking for material like this, which is different, it’s not like they are scared of doing small films, there is absolutely nothing like that, they want to take chances. But certain films require certain scale and budget, they when do film like that, they also make sure it is scaled down in such a way so the budget is manageable. Bigger stars are taking chances and doing different kind of films” says Bejoy.

“However they are not doing as such as they should be doing but definitely they are doing it” Bejoy adds further.

Many B-town celebs rushed to catch a screening of the movie Aligarh, such as Tabu, Chunkey Pandey, Anurag Kashyap, Kay Kay Menon, Sanjay Kapoor, Poonam Sinha, Sushant Singh Rajput and his girlfriend Ankita along with Arjun Kapoor.
