Actress Vidya Balan says she was offered 10 biopics at a time after she did Dirty Picture which is inspired by the life of Silk Smitha.
“After ‘The Dirty Picture’, I was offered almost 10 biopics and 2or 3 of them are of well-known actresses. However, since I had done ‘The Dirty Picture’ then, I did not want to do another biopic. Then I got this opportunity. But this is not a biopic on Geeta Baliji. I would not even claim that you could see all shades of her. You see me recreating Geeta Bali – the star. I think I do get drawn to her real life story which is why ‘Bhagwan Dada’ biopic also inspired me.” She said at the during the song launch of Shola Jo bhadke from Ek Albela, her debut Marathi film.
The actress, who was last seen in Hamari Adhuri Kahani, will be essaying the role of yesteryear Bollywood actress Geeta Bali in the film Ek Albela.
Would Vidya like to do Geeta Bali biopic in future, replies the actress, “Of course! But I have to put a lot more work to look like her.”
Talking about her portrayal, “To play Geeta Bali ji I had to watch her videos because we were creating bits from the film ‘Albela’. I tried to imbibe some mannerisms of her in the dancing portions specially.” She added.
Ek Albela traces the journey of Bhagwan Dada’s film career as an actor and director, and Vidya’s role is credited as a special appearance. Bhagwan Dada faced many obstacles while making the musical Albela, which had Geeta Bali in the lead.
Work wise, Vidya, 38 will feature alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Te3n, a thriller produced by Sujoy Ghosh. Besides She has completed filming for a sequel to Kahaani, and has also committed to star as the eponymous procurer in Begum Jaan, a Hindi language remake of the Bengali film Rajkahini from director Srijit Mukherji.
