“Udta Punjab is more honest film than Black Friday”- Anurag Kashyap

Sanjukta Sen | June, 07 2016

Director Producer Anurag Kashyap seemed to be quite upset at the screening of the ‘Udta Punjab’. While others celebrities Alia Bhatt, Abhishek Choubey, Vikas Behl and Vikramaditya Motwane abstained comment anything on the film, Anurag stated, “Don’t ask anything to me. We haven’t received any official letter from Pahalaj Nihalani. I would say I have not made such an honest film like this. Udta Punjab is a more honest film than ‘Black Friday’. Whoever is trying to stop the film I say openly he is the most corrupted man.”

“It is not banned. Let us receive the official letter. We don’t want any cut in the film. If we have to fight for that we will.” He added.
Punjab's ruling party Akali Dal, led by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son and deputy CM Sukhbir Badal has objected fiercely to the film's title and narrative which explores drug use in the state through a cross-section of characters.

Udta Punjab was submitted for certification in May. It was refused a certificate due to the purported sensitivity of its material. Since a movie cannot be released in theatres without a censor certificate, the producers knocked on the next available door: the revising committee, which included the CBFC’s chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani.

Earlier Anurag has also hit back with a stinging comment in his social networking site. With a reference to the dictator regime of North Korea, he tweeted, “I always wondered what it felt like to live in North Korea .. Ab to plane pakadney ki bhi zaroorat nahin.”

The film is written and directed by Abhishek Chaubey and features Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles. The film is scheduled for release on 17 June.
